David asks…

Something to Help me Sleep on a Plane?

Is it OK if I take some benedryl? To help me fall asleep on a plane? And is the pill as effective as the liquid?

Binaural Beats answers:

If you have never tried Binaural Beats for falling asleep I would definitely give them a shot. I found out about them because I couldn’t sleep at all and they have helped me so much! They are two tones played in headphones and they work like a turning fork to entrain your brain into a sleep state.
Here is a great binaural beat session for Sleeping on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ah-l13HFfo

I hope they help you as much as they have me!

Carol asks…

Do Binaural Beats actually work?

I read that they are supposed to make you feel anything from relaxation to really high. Is that true?

Preferably someone who has actually tried them before.

Binaural Beats answers:

In my experience I get really super relaxed from listening to binaural beats. Sometimes they make me feel a little floaty and often they will put me to sleep. They are actually the best thing I have tried for stress relief as they work so quickly. I have heard of other recordings that are supposed to be a natural high, but I haven’t tried those.

Every night for the past month, I haven’t been able to sleep without waking up at least 4 times. Sometimes even on the hour. Anyone know why this is?
I noticed that you guys said it was bc of what i’ve been eating…i went vegetarian on jan.6…could that have something to do with it?

Binaural Beats answers:

Many of us may think that these types of foods are what is necessary for us to get a good nights sleep. We may not be aware of the fact, however, that we are not falling asleep because we are becoming naturally tired but because of a chemical reaction that is taking place within our body.

Whenever we eat foods that are high on the glycemic index, they release a large amount of sugar into our bloodstream. This causes our body to react with a large amount of insulin. It is the insulin that makes us feel lethargic and fall asleep, not the food. Not only is this bad because of the type of sleep that we are getting, it also puts weight on our body rather quickly which can also affect our sleep. If you would like to be able to sleep better, there are some foods that you can eat which will help you to do so.

The first thing that you should make sure that you are eating is plenty of raw vegetables during the day, especially greens. The easiest way for you to be able to do this is to drink a green smoothie every day. Yes, it may sound a little bit disgusting but it is delicious and extremely nutritious. Mix a large handful of greens together with two pieces of fruit, water and some ice. Blend it until it is smooth and enjoy.

You should also make sure that you’re getting the right kind of fats on a daily basis. Depriving yourself of these fats is not going to help you lose weight for the long term so don’t worry about eating them. The best way for you to be able to get them is by eating coconuts and avocados. This will help to even out your blood sugar through the day and to make you more relaxed in the evenings.

Finally, prepare you mind and your body for a good nights sleep. Stay away from any type of movies or television that would stimulate your mind for action. Instead of doing this, try reading a relaxing book or some poetry before bedtime. You can also listen to relaxing music, take a nice warm bath or do some aromatherapy.

Meditating on relaxing things is also one of the thing which can be easily done to place your mind and body in a position where sleep will come naturally.

A relatively easy way to fall asleep is by using binaural beats for brain entrainment. There are binaural beat audio tracks that have been developed specifically to guide you into deep sleep frequencies.

These beats use a sound track of very relaxing and calming music that you need to listen to using a set of stereo headphones. The relaxation music has two distinct frequencies embedded in the sound track that are used to stimulate the brain which allows it to create its own frequency using the two embedded frequencies. This new frequency enables the brain to relax and achieve the state required for sleep.

The best way to understand the positive impact that binaural beat meditation can have is simply to experience it for yourself (see Resources).

Above all, try to get rid of any stress that you may be feeling from the day.

Good luck to you!

Jenny asks…

subliminal message/self help tapes etc while sleeping?

I downloaded a subliminal message/self help thing to listen to while i sleep (while my ps3 is folding). Its just music though? I was wondering if this still actually does anything constructive?

If so or even if not, does anyone have any links to more subliminal message tracks that may be better, that i can use? Free is the optimum word here also.

Binaural Beats answers:

You’ll find a free sample of ‘binaural beat’ subliminal mp3s here: http://www.1personalcare.com/hypnotherapy_and_subliminal_techniques/binaural_mp3_recordings.html

They use brain entrainment techniques to create different states of awareness.

Some people are quite cynical about them, but I’ve found them to be quite effective, particularly the calming, relaxing beats.
